Please come and join us at our congregational services!
We following the schedule listed below, but check the
Upcoming Services and Meetings schedule on the Home Page for updates.
First Friday
Tefillat Mishpacha - Family Worship: This service begins at 5:30 in the evening and is geared towards families with infants through school age children, but ALL are welcome to attend. We have birthday and anniversary blessings, collection of food for the JFS Food Pantry, a shorter worship service, and a story sermon. The children’s siddur (prayerbook) is used and some months, following services there is a community Shabbat dinner with ample opportunity for meeting other Temple members.
Second Friday
Shabbat Worship: This service begins at 7:30 pm and is a “traditional” Shabbat service. It will include the full Erev Shabbat liturgy and music, a Torah reading and drasha or sermon. There will, of course, be an Oneg Shabbat with plenty of time for schmoozing.
Third Friday
Mifgash Mishkan Tefillah - Meet the New Prayerbook: This service begins at 7:30 pm and is dedicated to learning the ins and outs of our new prayerbook: Mishkan Tefillah. We study the prayers as we move through the service, understand the order and structure of a worship service, learn a little Hebrew and decode the worship “choreography.” Our new prayerbook provides a unique opportunity to not just sit and pray, but to come to an understanding of the liturgy and why we do what we do. On these evenings, there is no Torah reading and only a brief drash on the Torah portion.
Fourth Friday
Shabbat Z'mirot - Musical Shabbat: This service begins at 7:30 pm and is highlighted by a variety of musical styles. Along with some of our “regular music,” we will learn new songs, listen to instrumentalists, and enjoy the talents of our choir. We are introduced to some of the newer Jewish composers and songwriters who are creating both classical and modern pieces for our synagogue worship. There is a Torah reading and a drasha or sermon followed by a performance piece.
Fifth Friday
Early and Out: There are four, fifth Fridays in the coming year (say that three times fast)! This Kabbalat Shabbat service will begin at 5:30 pm. There is no Torah reading and a brief drasha or sermon. Following the service, those in attendance are encouraged to share a Shabbat meal at the home of another congregant or to enjoy dining out with others. Notice is given of those who are opening their homes to host others or if a restaurant has been selected.
