a) EXECUTIVE
To be composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the congregation; and to meet at the call of the President, to discuss and investigate matters regarding the congregation and to formulate specific recommendations to be submitted to the Board for further consideration and action.
b) HOUSE AND GROUNDS
To have charge of the congregation’s building and grounds, to keep the building and properties of the congregation in good order and repair; to establish, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, rules and regulations for the use of the congregation’s facilities; and to evaluate and determine the appropriateness and acceptability of proposed additions and improvements to the congregation’s building and properties.
c) MEMBERSHIP AND HOSPITALITY
To secure affiliation with the congregation of members of the community who are inclined toward the Reform Jewish faith and who are not affiliated with another congregation in the immediate area of Canton, Ohio; to develop a program of the orientation, activation and retention of congregation members; and to visit and welcome newcomers to the vicinity of the congregation and to invite them to congregation functions and activities.
d) RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
To make rules and regulations for conducting the religious school, and also to make necessary financial arrangements including the appointment of teachers, subject to approval of the religious school budget by the Board of Trustees. The chairman of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood Religious School Committees shall automatically be members of the congregation’s Religious School Committee; and the Rabbi shall be an ex-officio member, and shall prescribe or approve the curriculum and other activities.
e) COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND INTERFAITH RELATIONS
To provide official representation of the congregation in Jewish and non-Jewish affairs, civil endeavors, public meetings, and philanthropic undertakings throughout the community, and to recommend to the Board when further participation of the congregation is required in such matters.
f) BUDGET AND FINANCE
To deal with the financial problems of the congregation; to present, as soon as possible after appointment, the annual budget for the approval of the Board; to have complete and final jurisdiction in the matter of dues of new and old members, as and when authorized by the Board; and to make recommendations on all other matters of income and expenses of the congregation.
g) RELIGIOUS PRACTICES AND MUSIC
To deal, under the instruction of the Rabbi, with all matters pertaining to religious ritual and observances, and to promote such practices in the home as will enhance the values of Jewish living.
h) CONSTITUTION
To draft all suggested amendments to this constitution, whether suggested by the Board or the membership; and, from time to time, to make recommendations for constitutional changes, as and when necessary.
i) CEMETERY
To have charge of all cemetery affairs of the congregation; and in emergencies concerning congregational cemetery affairs, when no governing regulations have been passed, after conferring with the President of the congregation, to make full and binding decisions regarding such matters.
j) ISRAELI AFFAIRS
To have charge of and/or coordinate all activities of the congregation with respect to Israeli affairs.
k) SOCIAL ACTION
To analyze issues and problems in the community and nation in relation to the principles of Judaism and to sensitize the membership to their moral implications, in cooperation with the Commission on Social Action for Reform Judaism and local Jewish community organizations, but speaking in the name of the congregation only with prior approval of the Board of Trustees.
l) URJ LIAISON
To develop stronger ties between the congregation and national institutions of Reform Judaism and to promote liberal Judaism in the world at large.
m) INSURANCE
To procure, administer and maintain adequate comprehensive insurance coverage for the congregation, subject to Board approval.
n) FAMILY EDUCATION
To promote educational activities and programs for the congregation and the community in order to foster greater knowledge of the world and the Jewish heritage.
o) LONG-RANGE PLANNING
To evaluate, assess and plan for future goal, requirements and developments of the congregation.
p) ENDOWMENT FUND ADVISORY
To have advisory authority over and responsibility for the Endowment Fund, subject to the provisions of Article XII of the Temple Israel constitution.
q) RETIREMENT FUND ADVISORY
To have advisory authority over and responsibility for the Retirement Fund, subject to the provisions of Article XIII of the Temple Israel constitution.
